Introduction - traditional chinese medicine and acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a profound and highly sophisticated medical system that dates back over 3,000 years.

The aim of TCM is to treat the underlying disharmony that lies at the root of disease and improve wellbeing, rather than simply alleviating the symptoms.

It derives its principles from the observation of nature and the cycle of the seasons, and is based on the Daoist concepts of Yin and Yang, two opposing qualities that are in a constant state of dynamic balance and harmony.

According to Chinese medical theory, Yin and Yang manifests in the body as a vital energy known as Qi. This flows through channels in our bodies, connecting with various organ systems, each of which has certain functions responsible for keeping the body ‘balanced’ and in good health.

Disease and ill health may occur when the balance of the energy in the channels and organs becomes blocked, and is then undermined through a deficiency or excess.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile, single-use disposable needles into specific points on the channels, in order to regulate the energy flowing in the channels and organs, thus promoting the body’s own healing power and restoring its natural balance.

Acupuncture or a variety of other treatment techniques such as cupping, moxibustion, tuina massage, guasha, electro-acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, or simple dietary and lifestyle advice may be used to help restore the body’s natural balance of Yin and Yang.

Five Element Constitutional Acupuncture

For thousands of years, the Chinese have believed that the Five Elements - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water - exist in everything and everyone, and are essential for all life.

Five Element Constitutional Acupuncture asserts that every person is born with a propensity to an imbalance in one of the Five Elements within them. This imbalance manifests primarily at the level of the body, mind or spirit and may become the root cause of an illness. Because body, mind and spirit are inseparable and the Five Elements are all interdependent, this root imbalance will eventually show symptoms at any of the levels and may eventually transfer to the other elements.

The key to diagnosis in Five Element Constitutional Acupuncture is discerning the root imbalance, (what we call the causative factor). Each element has a corresponding colour, sound, odour and emotion that is associated with the element out of balance. A Five Element practitioner is trained to see, hear, smell and feel these signs of elemental imbalance and to perceive the level at which the imbalance is rooted.

Treatment seeks to restore balance and harmony, resulting in a sense of well being and health within body, mind and spirit. Each person is unique. Even though symptoms may be similar, each person's causative factor and how it manifests is unique to them, and the treatment is based on the individual needs of each person.

Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture

Ray Siberini, our Acupuncturist offers Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture for men and women as a safe and cost effective alternative to Botox, surgery and fillers.

This non-surgical method helps to reduce the signs of ageing by encouraging the flow of Qi, blood and lymph in the local area.  Not only does it hydrate the skin, making it plumper and more supple, but it also boosts the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the face, helping to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes. This improves skin quality, colouring, elasticity, moisture content, muscle tone, and collagen production and vitalises the appearance generally.
